Chuckles and What They Mean

Chuckles and What They Mean

Just recently, my wife and youngest son came with me to Aurora High School to see their spring musical. It was Mary Poppins and the students did a really nice job, but that is beside the point. For me and my son, it’s all about the concession stand. All snacks and drinks are $1.00. I love that simplicity. My wife abstains from too many sweets, but for us, it is two sodas, two candies, one popcorn - $5.00. Then, at intermission, two more candies. That is only $7.00 for our entire dinner. I show Noah that the best way to eat Peanut M&M’s is to bite the shell in half and then pull out the entire peanut. I give him two to try, just two though, because they are mine.

When buying snacks, he is smart and chooses a non-sharing candy - Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Technically, there are two pieces but you would have to be some kind of saint to give up half. If you are with someone who asks for half of your Reese’s, they are no friend and you should end that relationship.

I love Chuckles. Chuckles rule, however, it is a “borderline sharing” candy. There are only five pieces. Once, long ago while opening a pack, I asked if anyone would like a piece. A person, whom I will not name, said, “Sure,” and took the red one. The red one! I haven’t seen this person in years, not because of the Chuckle incident, but because of - wait! It IS because of the red Chuckle. Who does that?

You can actually make a pretty accurate character study based on the color Chuckle a person takes when offered. If they take a Green, that means they are a good person. Orange or Yellow indicates they are neither good nor bad. If they take Red they are the devil. If Black is selected, you should never let this person go. The worst Chuckle = the best friend.
